As the industry is facing the unprecedented challenge of meeting global decarbonization targets while addressing growing demand, a new white paper published by “ABB” in Arabic on its website titled ” The future is energy-efficient, the future is data-driven,” highlights the importance of enhancing the integration of the Internet of Things (IoT) within the Egyptian industrial sector to reduce energy consumption and improve its efficiency.
ABB Egypt emphasized the latest pioneering projects it has implemented within the republic to facilitate the country’s transition to an optimal level of sustainability and reduce energy waste.
It is worth mentioning that the Internet of Things (IoT) and digitalization offer ample opportunities to reduce energy consumption. With remote connections and services, the status of equipment and even whole processes can be checked at any time, from anywhere, enabling better decisions about energy efficiency. In addition, data collection and analysis enabled by the industrial IoT increase knowledge and allow predictions. Furthermore, providing remote access to data and analytics to service experts is essential for the quick resolution of unwanted situations. Coupling remote access with new technologies allows earlier detection, and better diagnostics, and therefore facilitates faster service – resulting in better planning, major savings on maintenance, and an increase in efficiency.
Highlighting ABB’s commitment to supporting Egypt’s sustainable development goals Eng. Sherif Ismail, Electrification Commercial Leader Egypt & Central Africa, Vice President, ABB Egypt, stated,” Egypt’s economic development hinges on the energy sector, representing 13.1% of overall gross domestic product (GDP) . ABB is proud to collaborate with the GOE and other stakeholders to drive the adoption of energy-efficient practices in Egypt. With our innovative solutions and initiatives, we support the Integrated Sustainable Energy Strategy (ISES) to 2035, ensuring continuous stability in the country’s energy supply.
Furthermore, we recognize the importance of enhancing the integration of the Internet of Things (IoT) within the Egyptian industrial landscape as a key factor in reducing energy consumption and improving efficiency. By utilizing IoT technologies, ABB conducts energy appraisals for companies, providing detailed insight into how motor-driven applications perform, helping to make better decisions on ways to save energy, lower CO2 emissions, and lower maintenance requirements and costs, leading to long-term benefits in terms of profitability and sustainability.”
In the same context, Eng. Mohamed Ismail, Services Division Manager, Motion-Egypt, North & Central Africa, commented: ” Integrating IoT solutions into the industry has been a game-changer, revolutionizing energy efficiency and operational insights while unlocking the potential for enhanced preventive maintenance, significantly extending asset lifespans. For instance, ABB Ability™ OPTIMAX solutions can reduce energy costs by 5% to 10% without impacting operational processes. This solution optimizes energy supply and demand based on forecasts and real-time coordination, enabling seamless and flexible integration of various energy sources in factories, industrial facilities, and microgrids without affecting the main grid. ABB’s expertise in managing factory device readings significantly boosts energy efficiency and reduces costs in the industrial sector.”
For many years, ABB Egypt has been a strategic partner to both the public and private sectors, driving rapid and effective digital transformation. By continually providing cutting-edge systems and electric motors that improve energy efficiency and lower costs, ABB Egypt is helping pave the way towards a more sustainable future.
