Egypt, represented by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), is participating in the UN Climate Change Conference (COP29), hosted on November 11-22 in Baku, Azerbaijan.
COP29 brings together leaders from governments, the private sector, and civil society to drive forward concrete solutions to the critical issue of climate change. The conference provides a platform for countries to present their updated national climate action plans under the Paris Agreement.
MCIT is involved in several sessions throughout the conference, including the Ministerial Forum on Green Good Governance (G3), organized by the State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations under the President of Azerbaijan, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP), and Apolitical Group Limited. The event highlights the role of innovative public service delivery models in strengthening global climate efforts, offering a platform for sharing best practices and experiences.
Additionally, MCIT is participating in the High-Level Roundtable on Green Digital Action, in response to the invitation by Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and the UN Climate Change High-Level Champion for COP29. The roundtable concludes with the adoption of the COP29 Declaration on Green Digital Action, which underscores the essential role of digital technologies in climate action and establishes a collaborative framework for advancing sustainability.
Notably, MCIT participated in COP28 last year in Dubai, UAE, where it received the Prince Talal International Prize for Human Development for its Digital Transformation for Sustainable Development in Egypt (DT4SDE) project. Egypt also hosted COP27 in Sharm El-Sheikh in 2022.
