The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat delivered a speech at the ministerial preparatory meeting of the Egyptian-Jordanian Joint Higher Committee’s 32nd Session. The meeting took place today in the New Administrative Capital, and the Committee will convene tomorrow under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Jordanian Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh.
In his speech, the ICT Minister emphasized the significance of fostering cooperation between Egypt and Jordan in ICT areas, most notably attaining digital transformation and using open-source software to develop Arabic software systems to enhance government performance and digital government service delivery. He underlined the value of exchanging expertise and cooperating in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its advancements, while harnessing such technology to address challenges in the two countries.
Talaat emphasized the crucial role of cooperation in advancing the development of Arabic digital games, nurturing e-sports teams, and organizing tournaments for teams and startups involved in digital game development. He underscored the importance of collaboration in establishing a robust legislative framework to regulate and govern AI usage in Egypt and Jordan. Additionally, Talaat highlighted the necessity of expanding cooperation to include submarine cables and enhancing postal, parcel delivery, and shipping services.
The ICT Minister met with the Jordanian Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship Ahmad Hanandeh to discuss enhancing cooperation and exchanging experiences. The meeting was held within the framework of the March 2021 bilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at fostering cooperation and exchanging experiences between Egypt and Jordan in various ICT areas. These include digital infrastructure, digital transformation, AI, digital capacity-building, tech innovation and entrepreneurship, research and development (R&D), cloud computing, cybersecurity, and the legislative and regulatory framework related to ICTs, postal services, and investment in these areas.
