ICT, Youth Ministers Honor Telecom Egypt Members for Paris 2024 Paralympic Achievements

The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat and the Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhy have honored the Egyptian champions who won medals at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. This included employees of Telecom Egypt and athletes from Telecom Egypt Club. The event was attended by the President of the Egyptian Paralympic Committee Hossam Eldin Mostafa and Telecom Egypt’s Managing Director and CEO Mohamed Nasr.

The honorees included Rehab Ahmed Radwan, who won a gold medal in weightlifting; Mohamed Sobhy El-Alfat, who secured a silver medal in weightlifting; and Nadia Fikry Mohamed, who earned a bronze medal in weightlifting. In volleyball, Hesham Salah El-Shuwaikh, Motawa Abdel-Baqy Abu El-Khair, and AlSayed Moussa Saad claimed third place and a bronze medal. Randa Tag El-Din Mohamed finished fourth in weightlifting, while Hany Mohsen Mohamed, Taha Mohamed Adel, and Amr Mohamed Farouk placed sixth. Sherif Othman Khalifa secured seventh place in weightlifting. The event also honored Mohamed Eissa, the general supervisor of the club’s activities.

The Egyptian delegation earned seven medals at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, with Telecom Egypt and Telecom Egypt Club taking home three of these. Additionally, Telecom Egypt made a strong contribution to the volleyball team’s success in securing a bronze medal, with three of its players involved.

The ICT Minister praised the achievements of the Egyptian champions at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, highlighting their determination to win multiple medals and bring honor to Egypt in Paris. He expressed his pride in the sporting accomplishments of the Telecom Egypt athletes.

Talat emphasized the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology’s (MCIT) commitment to supporting Egypt’s champions and talents in various Paralympic games, in collaboration with the Paralympic Committee. He highlighted the role of the National Academy of Information Technology for Persons with Disabilities (NAID), an R&D center and technology incubator for companies specializing in assistive technology. The academy adapts all elements of ICT, including software, devices, and equipment, to serve and support people with special abilities. NAID offers state-of-the-art laboratories for assistive technology companies to develop software that is more adaptable to users’ needs, providing them with the support they require.

MCIT supports all creative and meaningful initiatives in the development of assistive technology to aid persons with disabilities (PwDs), Talat noted. This effort aims to build a better digital future for children with disabilities and Egypt’s champions in the Paralympic Games.

During the ceremony, the Minister of Youth and Sports expressed his pride in the achievements of Egypt’s champions at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. He highlighted that these accomplishments are not just medals but a testament to the champions’ determination and persistence, reflecting a national success story that showcases the capability of Egyptian youth to excel under any circumstances. He emphasized the ministry’s ongoing efforts to support athletes by providing an enabling sports environment for them to continue their journey and achieve more global successes.

Sobhy further explained that honoring the champions is part of the ministry’s broader strategy to support Paralympic sports and people with special abilities, as they serve as role models for Egyptian youth in overcoming challenges and pursuing their goals. He remarked that the achievements in Paris were not only a victory for Egyptian sports but also for the entire society. The ministry remains committed to offering all necessary support to ensure that these champions continue to succeed and perform admirably on the international stage.

In addition, the Minister emphasized the significance of the partnership between the government and private sectors, praising Telecom Egypt’s role in supporting athletes. He noted that the company has contributed by providing job opportunities and offering technical and logistical support to the Telecom Egypt Club, which has strengthened Egypt’s presence in the Paralympic Games and led to these commendable results.

For his part, the President of the Egyptian Paralympic Committee stated that the champions put forth tremendous effort during the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, successfully honoring Egypt and achieving their goals through determination and perseverance. He explained that preparations for the Paralympic mission began two and a half years ago, during which the national teams were trained and qualified through local, continental, and world championships.

Mostafa expressed his gratitude to the Ministers of ICT and Youth and Sports for their support of the Paralympic mission and praised the champions from Telecom Egypt for their achievements.

The Managing Director and CEO of Telecom Egypt remarked that the Paralympic champions set remarkable examples of determination and resilience, inspiring hope in the ability of young people to shape a better future. He further explained that honoring the champions reflected the company’s strong belief in its role as a national entity in supporting sports and athletes. He extended his gratitude to the champions on behalf of his colleagues at Telecom Egypt and the Telecom Egypt Club, expressing his full confidence in their potential to achieve even greater success .
