ICT Minister Engages in AI Action Summit, Meets Airbus, OMEA Officials

On behalf of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, the Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat has participated in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Action Summit, held in Paris, France, on February 10-11.

The summit brought together several heads of state and government from around 30 countries, along with approximately 60 ministers, ambassadors, and government officials, in addition to 20 executives from international organizations.

As part of the summit, the ICT Minister joined a session titled “Harnessing AI for the Future of Work,” which featured insights from several global leaders on the impact of AI on job opportunities.

The session also covered their recommendations for equipping the workforce with essential skills for the optimal and responsible use of AI technology.
On the sidelines of the summit, Talaat met with the Executive Vice President International at Airbus Wouter Van Wersch. They discussed establishing a research and development (R&D) center for the company in Egypt.

Airbus is Europe’s largest aeronautics and space company, providing products, services, and solutions for the commercial aircraft, helicopter, defense, and space sectors.
During the meeting, the capabilities of Egypt’s offshoring industry were highlighted, showcasing its rapid growth amid the government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for global investments and encouraging companies to establish offshoring centers in Egypt. The meeting also emphasized the incentives and facilitations offered to companies within the framework of the Digital Egypt Strategy for Offshoring Industry 2022-2026.
The meeting was attended by the Advisor to the ICT Minister for Technological Talents Hoda Baraka.
Furthermore, the ICT Minister held a meeting with the Executive Vice President and CEO of Orange Middle East and Africa (OMEA) Jérôme Hénique, in the presence of the Ambassador of Egypt to France Alaa Youssef, along with the CEO of Orange Egypt Yasser Shaker and several senior company officials.
During the meeting, Orange showcased its latest AI-powered applications across multiple sectors, most notably training and sports. Hénique looked forward to fostering cooperation in these areas.
The meeting was attended by Assistant ICT Minister for Strategy and Implementation Sherine El-Guindy, the Advisor to the ICT Minister for Technological Talents, the Director of the Central Department of International Relations Samah Aziz, and Sector Director of ICT Markets Development at Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) Mahmoud Sofrata.
It is worth noting that the ICT Minister also participated in the Ministerial Roundtable of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) members and interested countries, held on the sidelines of the AI Action Summit. In his remarks, he outlined Egypt’s ongoing efforts in advancing the use of AI.
